MP Development Update #42
Hey everyone

Another quick weekly update.
Last week we've been setting up a few technical things with the new crew and that's done so I've gone into a bit of a lone wolf mode to finish up things before the release of 0.15
This week I'm finalizing scenes and writing. It's going good so far and I'm looking forward to the upcoming release. I can see the finish line. To speed up the process a bit further I might get a little help with the writing as well.
I'm sitting here thinking about what to include in this post about the upcoming update, but I can't really say stuff that hasn't been said already. So I guess I'll talk about something different.
Back in the day when Midnight Paradise was still just an idea it was supposed to be a lot different from what it is today. And that bothered me for a long while.
The reason it's the way it is today is because, well, most things don't go as planned and I had to make decisions that would "put out the fires" short term but compromised on long term vision. This mainly happened during the time of the initial disaster of 0.1 - 0.3
After that I wanted to get back to the roots as close as possible, because that was the comfortable place to be, that was home turf. And while render quality increased drastically compared to Dreams of Desire, the game didn't evolve as much as I wanted it to.
My main issue is that it's not utilizing the sandbox element enough. I don't play much games nowadays aside from a select few, but what I always liked about games was the little exploration of unlocking new locations, checking on characters and see if there's anything new to do with them, checking back periodically as the main story moved forward. And when there was something new unlocked and I discovered it, it felt great. I think this is what's missing from MP. I'm not talking about anything grindy here, where you have to raise stats by mindless clicking for 20 minutes to unlock a new scene.
It would be cool to have smaller scenes scattered throughout the game that can be reached by free interaction with the characters. Do you guys think that would be good too, or is it just me?

Also why is he still ”writing” and finalizing scenes, if everything was supposed to be ready for November/December release already? The delay was supposed to be Lain’s fault as he stated himself, yet now it's proved that the real reason for the delay was actually him not doing his job. January 4th he said he will work on 0.16 content while he waits for the ”coder situation” to clear out, yet he didn’t even have things ready for 0.15…
The only thing he seems to be proving that he is a slow learner when it comes to creating a project to surpass his previous one :sneaky: It really takes him a longass time to realize that he might have issues with this. Three years just to face the fact that the whole sandbox part is completely empty? It is downright funny. I mean.. three years. Three years in high-school and you are almost done. A woman gives birth in 9 months, tops that is. She has to face the fact of pregnancy real quick and make decisions accordingly. In three years the kid will be 2+ years old already.
And for him 3 years was only enough for a 'damn, my game is kinda empty isn't it' :whistle:

I don't know about you but i think this is well and truely transitioned into the humorous category. I can't even stay upset or anything. I see this is as a joke by now. Yeah, the type of that makes me cry but i'm at the point when i just laugh when i am done with the tears.

Now i'm sure that the girl of this update will be Ruby. Let's see if this will payoff the almost three years of waiting for the first sex scene with a main girl.
IDGAF about Ruby. I can't even describe how much I don't want Ruby to be the focus of 0.15. I don't find her attractive at all and that's because her lips remind me of Alfre Woodard:

I'm a sucker for Isabelle. Joyce is great, but Isabelle is where it's at; one of the hottest characters in any game I've played.

Devs should stop trying to imitate BADIK.
Not to mention all that is only to delay even firther the sex with the family.

With all these months of delay, one would think that 0.15 might give us what we have all been waiting for...but I highly doubt that. Dev may as well rename this game to Milking Paradise, because let's face it. That's what this is really all about.

I still can't believe these devs couldn't figure out most of us don't care the ''side stuff'' so to speak. We just want straight story with maybe 2-3 branch that you can choose. Other than that all those side content/sandbox etc are extras if you succeeded in the most important part. In this situation he just should cancel all that side content and focus on finishing this game before the years ends with 4-5 consistent updates!

Keeping the main story lengthy and interesting is the hardest thing to do when creating a game. Fluff, side quests, backtracking etc are things that will never disappear.
Maybe for traditional video games(and even ten it is debatable) but there is no reason for these adult games to be too ambitious like this. They should stay simple and focused if they don't have the needs which is he case for nearly all of the ''onhold'' games here.

You'll find it's very hard to be both a creative person and a technical person, it's a skill very few people actually have or learn on the job through hundreds of hours sunk into their craft.

Technical people aren't necessarily the most creative and visa versa, they tend to think about what they can't do instead of how they can solve the problem. Creative people may not have the skill to even create the game they envisioned due to the technical barrier.

It takes a special dev with both these qualities to make a game SOLO...but this is why we have TEAMS and collabs, where you are strong in one department, you can hire someone who's gifted in the area you lack.

However this usually brings up the issue of financing these contractors, most devs get a lick of $$$ and try to keep as much of it as possible by cutting corners. This now trends into poor business management, since they start to devalue what their coders are doing as they tend to finish before them creating assets, thus they view their job as "easy" and question why they are being paid so much when the dev feels like he/she is pulling the weight of the project with no financial reward.

This mentality is why people make poor decisions based on their instant gratification, it takes money to make money. Businesses don't stay alive without funds, managers and CEOs sometimes don't even pay themselves a salary in the first 5 years and devote everything into stabilizing their investment so it can start baring fruit.

It's this get rich quick mentality that's killing off this genre, too many devs greed the cash just to get instant financial gratification instead of thinking about building something that would last them 5-10 years.

I also fully agree with you 100% I am tired of all the side fluff and just want the MILF content ASAP before the dev burns and writes 4 paragraphs on their mental health.

They do this because they want to milk their game before getting to the 1-2 scenes of the MILF followed by a "quick" wrap up update which usually takes the full year to make that contains 2 static images and "they lived happily ever after." in broken English, leaving us fans feeling empty that the game didn't conclude how it should have.

Meanwhile all these skinny, goofy teenie girls with blue hair got 7 updates of generic sex and stiff animations and all we wanted was the MILF with those thicc thighs...

Losing faith in this space.

Without fluff most developers would burn out almost immediately. There are many indie games that come out that do their own thing without much bs, but they take years to create and end up relatively short. To create an attractive and lengthy product you need a gameplay loop which can be easily expanded. More locations to visit, people to talk to and types of quests.

You probably don't know about a certain game - AWAM.
From 40-48 months estimate to be completed,we moved to something like 15 years at best.

If they can do it more power to them, if they can't; focus on the most important part which is the main story with main girls. This is the situation of the game we are talking about now.
