They didn't just make their own dictionary & change definitions, but then again this is part of your problem. Someone provides you with evidence to back their point, in this case the various meanings of the word gay, & you retort with a silly comment, in this instance the totally unsubstantiated 'fact' that they (whoever they are) just made their own dictionary & changed definitions! You may not agree with the word gay being used to describe a homosexual, you're perfectly entitled to hold that view, but you cannot deny that it isn't one of the meanings of the word!I can make my own dictionary and change definitions just like they did in that link.
I know you won't, but you can do a lot of studying and look back into history and dictionaries that have the true definitions.
But, since you won't nevermind.
Nevermind, go to sleep now.![]()
The meaning of words can change over time as society/culture changes. Some words simply fall out of common usage, others have various meanings such as the word gay, & new words/definitions are added to the Oxford English Dictionary. If language stands still then culture stands still.
What dictionary do you use to get your definitions from? I'm guessing it must be the first dictionary ever written!
Oh & by the way, I have done a lot of studying on etymology. So I do know what I am talking about. & by studying I don't mean just searching the internet! I mean at a recognised institute of learning.
